A steampunk lion would be totally awesome. I'd wear that any day.

And I'd wear welding goggles with it as well and a bowler hat with some nixie tubes.

I think something as elaborate as that would be too... stereotypical-ish? And just too complex.

If you could design it in the way of steampunk rather than the Terminator-era future, that'd be perfect. Steampunk is beauty and embracing the technology back in the day.

Um, in response to the sketch, those gears will not turn. I just feel that is a very important mechanical note.

1. Do you have any particular qualms with the current logo? I know that we could use something fresh, but I believe that's primarily because of our shirts, which have ultimately lost flavor over the past couple of years.

2. In the drawing process, you would have to be careful of the detail. If you don't add clearly placed screws and stuff, then the mane might actually look like Asian anime hair, which is not the look that we're going for.

3. It is very stereotypical. Cause lots of teams try and their mascots into robot-esque figures with robotic eyes or arms and junk. But, stereotypical things can look nice. If this ends up looking smooth then it might be alright.

4. I think for the sake of Kat's mental sanity and for what's going on now, I currently do not support a new logo change. Our logo now looks really spiffy. Over the years, some of it's color has been removed, but I don't think that we need a re-design.

But this is purely my opinion, if you think that the team needs a new logo, then go for it. Talk to Mrs. Rutland and all of that fun stuff, but do note that I think that a re-design of the logo would void Kat's current t-shirt since it was originally based off the logo.

@Paul, do you have a tablet?

And from an artistic point of view, the overlay with the gears seems like its too busy and distracts from the actual features of the lion. I'm also curious to see how you'll get the strings and pendulums to do the upwards-gravity defying part of the lion mane, and to also have it not seem too complicated and also have the volume needed to tell that it's a mane.

Like it'd be interesting to see something like the circuit lion is now, though with some metal, screws, and a revealed area that shows a peek inside where upon the gears/springs/pendulums/LeGrange remainders lay.

@Sunny: Those are really good points. I was just sketching things that were in my head; the design was purely for recreative purposes.
@Kat: Yes, I have an Intuos3.
@Tanner: That'd be quite interesting - modern circuitry on top and steampunk gadgets inside.

Overall, I think that the Circuit Lion should stay. Thanks for the constructive criticisms, everyone.

Yeah, I used it often back in 2006. I use it with Pixia and Artweaver to draw and take notes. It comes in handy when you're also tutoring a student as well. If you're planning to sketching and paint in only a small palette, a Bamboo should work just fine, though.
