Uh... wait, did the flyers we gave out @ Info night didn't have links to the team website did they? 'Cos the team website is in a really sorry state, it needs a major overhaul by someone who has the time... the organization is screwed up, the pages are way too long. Not to mention that the formatting is really inconsistent (yay WYSIWYG...)

Either
(A) Kill all the content, have a concise (but IMHO boring) site
(B) Change the navigation so we can have more pages (simply install a plugin?)

I'd do it if I had the time, but if I volunteered it'd probably take me another three months 'cos I'd have to figure out wordpress / have backlog of stuff I need to do. I'd say the website should definitely get done during the offseason, getting it down during FRC season wasn't uhm very successful.

I don't remember if anyone actually took a flier, course I was running around with my head cut off and on adrenaline.

Honestly, I'd have to look at it again to see what we should have and keep. Maybe I/we/someone should make a list of things that we would ideally like to have on a website. Right now its really confusing what is on the site, so I think starting from scratch may be the best thing we can do at the moment. Though that is just my opinion not having looked at the site in months.

:D. Funny someone should mention the website.

So...
1. I had fliers there but we did not pass them out. It was just easier to ask people for their email addresses so we
could email them the information. The fliers I have created do recommend that people visit the website. I think
we should continue to collect email addresses as to keep traffic away from our website, If we need to.

2. I realized that our website was in shambles right when Samir started to work on it and upgrade the content. And I
really liked the fan site that Daniel created for us. I realized that everything that the fan site has, should be part of
our own website. So before school went out, I asked Daniel if he would make us a website during the fall. He agreed, and we planned to have
Samir/his posse work to update the content.

I mean I'm not against us trying to 'save' the old website, but I just feel that Daniel can produce more then a
template and Samir and his group can update the content constantly.

And who knows, we could honestly contend for the website award. It'd be wise that as we rebuild the website, we
go by the award guidelines. For example, did you know that the front page is supposed to have generic information,
not just like a running blog, and that's exactly what we did. :P There are a bunch of things that we can do.

That's just what I have on the website stuff.

I realized after I posted my previous post that I did not mention the guidelines. The guidelines are basically available online: http://www.usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/WE ... iteria.pdf

The scoring sheet in the back is the best guideline IMHO.

1. Well, its always nicer to have something to give people. Like, if I want to know more about a product, I don't really want to wait until some guy sitting behind a desk sends me a email about it, when I could go visit a site. However confusing it may be at the moment, its a lot more than I could put in a email.

2. Speak up then man, tell someone then, not five months after the fact. If Daniel can create a template for Wordpress, that's great. Although if he wants to do it without Wordpress, I'm not sure exactly how easy it will be to edit and manage.

If we can look at the guidelines now (do I get to refer to the Fall as "now", since school starts in seven days?) and create a website while in the fall, we can probably get a website that is pretty good. Looking over our site as it is now, it seems to abide by the guidelines well, but not one hundred percent. In due time, we can organize the site better.

Maybe we'll actually start that Website Team we've always been talking about, but never got around to it.

Well, the website thing wasn't the most important thing at any given point in time, but it seems to have caught steam now. ;)

I'm not sure what Daniel was doing with the fan site but I doubt it was wordpress, but he was updating content on the website right as I was talking to him, so I wouldn't think it's too difficult, but as to exactly what he did, only Daniel could tell you.

Our website is alright...I just feel that it lacks the personal touch that I often find on other teams' websites, but hopefully we can fix that.

Nah, it wasn't Wordpress. It was whatever stuff the people at freewebs like to use.
